The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is made up of cell receptors and communicating molecules. Cell receptors are similar to tiny locks on the surface of cells. Chemical molecules named agonists are referred to as the keys to these locks. As an agonist binds to a cell it sends out a message, causing a surge of chemical reactions to take place.
The two primary cell receptors that make up the ECS, are called Cannabinoid Receptor 1 (CB1) and Cannabinoid Receptor 2 (CB2). Endocannabinoids and phyto-cannabinoids are the keys to these receptors. Endocannabinoids are the body’s natural cannabinoids which are similar to the phyto-cannabinoids which are plant based cannabinoids like CBD. There are two main endocannabinoid molecules that the body produces on it’s own, Anandamide and 2-Ag. Anandamide is the same chemical responsible for delivering what is referred to as the “runners high”. It is also released during meditation and yoga.
Cannabinoid receptors can be found throughout the entire body, each having it’s own unique function. CB1 receptors are found mainly in the central nervous system. CB2 receptors are more abundant in the immune cells and the GI tract. Endocannabinoids are responsible for keeping the body functioning properly on a daily basis. They help regulate sleep, appetite, pain, temperature regulation, memory, mood and immune function.
The main objective of enodcannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system is to maintain balance and order of the other systems in the body. When the ECS falls out of balance, any of the other systems in the body can become disrupted, leading to a whole host of issues.
Endocannabinoids work to maintain optimal balance in the body, also known as homeostasis. When the ECS is disrupted, any one of the body’s systems may fall out of balance, leading to what is called an “Endocannabinoid Deficiency”. This is when the body is not able to produce enough endocannabinoids on it’s own or is unable to regulate them properly. When this occurs, an individuals body and immune system can become compromised, making them more susceptible to illness or imbalance in the body. Supplementing with Raden Botanicals CBD Oil may help rebalance the endocannabinoid system and prevent a deficiency from occurring in the first place.
